Jerejak Downhill Challenge 2012

It's call the Jerejak Downhill Challenge for a reason, downhill bicycle challenge at one of the 'unexplored' track in Penang, the Jerejak Island.

This island gained its alias as the Alcatraz of Malaysia because of the Jerejak Prison back in the old days. Sir Francis Light, Penang's famous founder, first step foot in Pulau Jerejak before heading to Penang Island. Back then, it was made the naval base during the British colonial era.

Another interesting fact about Jerejak  Island is, it used  to be a quarantine centre for immigrants before they flood Penang Island. But later in 1930s, there was a hospital built at the island for Tuberculosis patients. But don't worry, it's all clear now....no more virus or whatsoever.

Here's a pic of how it used to look like,  i mean, the rehabilitation centre...

Well, enough with the history, here's some pics of the event itself.

The event was participated by downhill challenger from all over Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Iran, Denmark and even as far as Sabah & Sarawak...hehehe...

Well, like they say it, good things must come to an end, though we had great fun learning history at the island, enjoying the sea breeze, lurking at the macho riders and admiring the game, we still have to say ADIEUS!!

Till we meet again,
Ashley, Janice & Winnie
